Practical support that fits around your business
Every business is different, and so is the support it needs.
Some of my clients need me to look after their day-to-day bookkeeping. Others need help with invoicing, credit control, management information or preparing everything for their accountant. For some, my role extends much further into the day-to-day financial and administrative running of the business.
I don’t believe in trying to fit every client into the same package.
We can agree the level of support that suits your business.
Bookkeeping & VAT
Good bookkeeping isn’t simply about entering transactions. It’s about keeping your financial records accurate, organised and up to date.
I can take care of day-to-day bookkeeping, sales and purchase transactions, bank and credit card reconciliations, VAT records and returns, and keeping your accounts in good order throughout the year.
If things have fallen behind, I can also help bring everything back up to date and get it organised again.
Management Accounts & Reporting
You shouldn’t have to wait until year-end to find out how your business is performing.
I can prepare regular management information covering the areas that matter to your business and help you understand what the figures are actually telling you.
The aim isn’t another report to file away. It’s useful information that helps you understand your business and make informed decisions.
Invoicing & Credit Control
Making the sale or completing the work is only part of the process. You still need to get paid.
I can manage customer invoicing, keep track of outstanding balances and follow up overdue accounts professionally and consistently.
And if your debtor list has already got out of hand, I don’t mind tackling that either.
Year-End Preparation & Accountant Liaison
I don’t prepare statutory year-end accounts.
Instead, I make sure everything is properly organised before it reaches your accountant.
I can prepare and review the accounting records, deal with reconciliations and outstanding queries, gather the information required for year-end and liaise directly with your accountant where appropriate.
Having worked within an accountancy practice and later as an Estate Accountant for a large private landowner, I understand both sides of that relationship.
Your accountant gets what they need and you don’t have to spend your time acting as the go-between.
Finance & Business Administration
Because not everything fits neatly under “bookkeeping”
It might be supplier administration, customer queries, organising information, investigating a discrepancy, communicating with another professional or taking responsibility for something that simply needs doing.
For some clients, I become part of the day-to-day workings of the business, taking responsibility for agreed tasks without the commitment of employing another member of staff.
When things have got a little messy
Businesses change. They grow, people leave, systems that once worked stop working and sometimes the finance and administration simply don’t keep up.
I’m very comfortable stepping into situations like these.
I can help work out what’s happening, identify what needs attention, get things organised and put practical processes in place to make things easier going forward.
No judgement. No unnecessary complication. Just working through it and getting things back under control.
Systems, Processes & Software
I work with your systems — not the other way around
Xero is the accounting platform I use most frequently, but I’ve worked with a wide range of accounting and business software and I’m comfortable working with systems already in place.
My experience also includes specialist platforms such as Cliniko, Semble, WorkflowMax and Birdie.
If a system is new to me, I’m happy to learn it. And if the problem isn’t the software but the process around it, I can help with that too.
That might mean removing duplication, introducing a clearer procedure, helping people understand how something should be done or documenting a process properly.
The objective is simple: make the business easier to run.
Specialist sector experience
I work with businesses across different industries, with particularly strong experience and interest in:
Private Healthcare
Engineering & Manufacturing
ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING SUPPORT
These two sectors have become a big part of my work since I became self-employed, and I enjoy the challenges they bring. But I work with businesses across a wide range of sectors, and I’d love to hear about yours.
Not sure exactly what you need?
You don’t need to arrive with a job description or a perfectly organised list of tasks.
Tell me what’s taking up too much of your time, what’s not working or what you’d simply rather somebody else took responsibility for.
We’ll work out the rest from there.
