Hello, I’m Janka.
I’m the person behind JMH Bookkeeping. I work with business owners who need someone they can trust to look after the accounts and help with the practical jobs that come with running a business.
I enjoy getting to know my clients and understanding how their businesses work. Over time, that often means my role grows beyond bookkeeping. I become someone they can turn to when there’s a query to investigate, a process to sort out or something that needs following through.

How I got here
I started my working life in administration before moving into finance, combining practical experience with studying AAT.
My career took me through manufacturing, an accountancy practice and a major housing developer, where I ran the accounts department. I then became an Estate Accountant for a large private landowner, looking after the day-to-day accounts, managing the people in the department and working closely with the external accountants. That was my last job before starting JMH.
Having worked in an accountancy practice and then within businesses themselves, I’ve seen things from both sides. I understand what the accountant needs, but also what’s involved in getting that information together while keeping on top of the day-to-day work.
Those roles gave me a broad understanding of finance and the responsibility that comes with looking after someone else’s business.
But as I progressed into more senior positions, I found I missed the hands-on work: getting into the detail, investigating a discrepancy and finding a way to make things work better.
That’s why I started JMH Bookkeeping.
What I enjoy about working for myself
I like the variety, the people and the chance to see the difference my work makes.
Every business works differently. I take time to understand what’s already in place, where help is needed and how I can make things easier for the people running it.
Many of my clients have worked with me for years. We’ve built relationships where I know their business, understand the day-to-day challenges and can get on with the work we’ve agreed.
That’s the kind of working relationship I enjoy.
Away from the accounts
I live in a small village in Derbyshire, and you’ll often find me out walking in the surrounding countryside with my husband, Tom, and our two dogs — Olive, our cockapoo, and Poppy, our miniature dachshund.

I’m involved in village life and edit our local community newsletter. I also enjoy cooking, although Sunday dinner has a habit of becoming rather more complicated than it needs to be!
Let’s talk
If you’d like to talk about your business and where you could use some support, I’d be happy to hear from you.
